Day 4 – Alfie’s Wedding

Day4-for-blogFour days done now, only nine more filming days to go…. (plus the many pick-ups and scenic shots we need to complete the edit). The day started with the completion of a scene that was rained off on Sunday evening, and guess what, rain once again delayed the scene! But we got it… Roger, Keith and Vanessa all returned to complete things, and we got it in the can. The scene concerned the delivery of some bad news from ‘Joe’ to his godson ‘Tom’.

Whilst this was going on, we started our promo day. Tabitha, our excellent stills photographer, came to the set and shot some behind the scenes footage, as well as promotional photos of Virginia and Keith for our poster artwork. Also, some press came up from London to interview our cast and report on the film.

After lunch (provided by Stuart Blackman, aka the Country Bumpkin — if you haven’t experienced his Wild Food nights, you must!), the production moved to Knebworth Methodist Church Hall. The scene was our second wedding of the film – the wedding of ‘Joe’s’ old friend, ‘Alfie’, played by Geoffrey Bayldon. Terrific! And equally terrific was his wife, played by Martha Ross. Quite a contrast to yesterday’s opulent wedding, this one was cheap and cheerful, and loads of fun. We got the shots… just. Another excellent cast of extras (if any of you local Extras are reading this, we thank you so much — you’ve all put your hearts into this film and performed superbly well). What more could we want? The sun even came out towards the end (not necessarily a good thing, as it blasted through the windows of the Hall and resulted in a half hour delay as we bizarrely tried to block it out!

And today’s photo is a little different. It’s an exposure test shot from our film camera, and shows Keith Michell as ‘Joe’.

So, that was Day 4. Tomorrow, we’re at the church for our third wedding! But not before we try and squeeze in a funeral and a confessional…..
