Day Two – The Village Pub
Two days down; are we still on course? Well, sort of! The schedule was always going to be aggressive, but we have started to make some scene cuts in order to spend more time on key scenes. Technically, the camera is working a treat, which is a massive relief. The crew is pulling out the stops to get through the scenes, whilst ensuring that we have excellent pictures and sound. The pressure is immense, and the lack of sleep is starting to show. Looking forward to a few hours sleep-in on Saturday, or rest day (although we still have huge amounts of planning to do for the second week).
The whole of today was spent in the pub – my favourite place! Although 13 hours in a pub without beer is a terrible experience! Three scenes were shot, with one of them shortened — although the story still held up, and in fact probably works better.
Virginia McKenna, Diana Quick and Patrice Brake arrived for filming in the afternoon. Wow. What a terrific scene between Virginia and Keith Michell… fantastic, and a real honour to be part of it. Get your hankies ready, this is going to be a weepy….
The photo shows two of our younger actors, Neil Toon and Lydia Clarkson, resting between takes. Behind them (backs to us) are Geoffrey Whitehead, Roger Ringrose, Keith Michell and Tony Phillips. They deserved a rest, it was a long day…..
